About

We offer dried flowers and herbs for small animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, degus, hamsters and gerbils.

Story

Food4Buns was founded 10 years ago to create a healthy snack alternative for rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, hamsters, degus and gerbils. Most store bought products, most pellets included, contain too much sugar and grains that don't even make good treats.

Guinea pigs for example should get calcium rich food in moderation and most of the degu food contains corn and grains that will make them diabetic.

Food4Buns is always changing and growing and looking for new healthy flower and herb combinations. Some of our mixes are specifically for certain small animals.

Although they can be eaten and enjoyed by most small animals, we added disclaimers for example for mixes that contain self dried banana chips, carrots etc. Those are not suitable for degus as their sugar content is too high.

Please don't hesitate to contact us with questions and concerns you may have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are your products really safe for my pet?
- Yes. We will never include any products that are not 100% approved for small animals. We have bunnies and guinea pigs of our own and offer "tastings" whenever new herbs and flowers arrive.

I didn't know bunnies, piggies etc. really eat flowers and herbs. I give them pellets and hay.
- Hay is certainly their most important food source but pellets are really only a quick fix to provide them with vitamins and nutrients that in nature they would ingest by eating flowers, herbs, seeds and roots. Consider that pellets were "invented" to quickly fattening up rabbits for human consumption and doing so in the cheapest manner possible.

Where do your flowers and herbs come from?
- We have suppliers in the EU and all over the USA. All flowers and herbs are food-grade which means safe for human consumption, in tea or food.

I'm trying flowers and herbs for my small animals for the first time. Which one can you recommend?
- Usually calendulas/marigold and rosebuds and dandelion and plantain herbs are a pretty safe bet for all small animals. However, taste buds are all different and you will not know until you try. That is why we recommend ordering small bags or mixes at first.
